Delicious Suzhu Taro Balls at Lukang Old Street – A Must-Try Snack for Taro Lovers!

Strolling around Lukang Old Street without a clue about anything. I was simply being led by my dad's friends, the power of local insiders. Just go with the flow, no pressure. Even when we passed by Suzhu Taro Balls, I had no idea what it was all about, despite seeing people lining up. After all, being a non-local, who would know it's a famous snack?

So, when I arrived at the shop again, I was a bit surprised. Turns out, it's quite renowned, and they usually sell out around 4 to 5 in the afternoon. Dad's friend came specifically so we could bring some back to Taipei to enjoy. He said it's their go-to place for taro balls, and they always buy some whenever they visit. Just make sure not to go too late because they're incredibly popular. You can either eat on-site or take them home and steam them later from the freezer.

The outer layer is filled with abundant taro, enveloping a meat filling. The taste is mild without any sauce. It's quite delicious when eaten on its own; it has a strange kind of magic. While eating, it might not seem particularly extraordinary, but you'll find yourself wanting to have another one, and then suddenly realizing they're all gone, leaving a slight sense of disappointment. I thought maybe I should have bought an extra one or steamed one more to enjoy. Moreover, the price is actually reasonable, making it suitable as both a snack or a main dish.
