It's strange, but for the past two years, every time I visit Lukang Old Street, it's always in the afternoon. I've never arrived in the morning or at noon, which means I don't have much leisure time to wander around the old street. Of course, there's a main reason for that - these visits have always been spontaneous and not the primary destination. This time, on our way back to Taipei, my dad suddenly mentioned visiting his colleague who lives in Lukang. So, we took a detour once again! It seems like this colleague has invited my parents to visit Lukang several times.
On weekdays, Lukang Old Street is not as crowded and busy as on weekends, but it's nearing evening. Many shops are gradually closing. However, it has its own charm, and I don't particularly enjoy crowded places, so this timing is perfect for us.
"Yuzhen Zhai" is a well-known souvenir shop located in front of Lukang Matzu Temple. Almost every visitor would step inside for a browse before leaving.
The alleys of Lukang Old Street are the essence, hiding many treasures waiting to be discovered. I remember the last time I visited, I didn't even step into these alleys. The routes guided by the locals are completely different from exploring on our own, preserving the flavors of the past. No wonder they suggested that we should go earlier next time and allocate at least half a day to leisurely explore these places. They have reportedly taken many friends along, acting as local guides. They can show you locations and scenery that regular tourists may not necessarily visit. Moreover, it's a very smooth route, the kind that you won't easily forget even after completing it. Haha!
