Sanjiaopu Grass Jelly: Must-Try Summer Dessert Near Houshanpi

This bowl of mixed grass jelly dessert looks pretty good, right? It comes with mung beans, red kidney beans, adzuki beans, taro balls, tapioca pearls, and most importantly—grass jelly. Put them all together and you’ve got a nearly perfect bowl of grass jelly dessert. There’s really not much to nitpick about the toppings.

This bowl is from Sanjiaopu Grass Jelly, located right next to Houshanpi MRT Station. It costs NTD $70 for the mixed grass jelly bowl. The price has gone up a bit, inevitably.

These days, I rarely eat desserts or drink icy beverages for health reasons—but having this at least once during summer doesn’t seem too much, right? The sense of satisfaction is hard to replace. That instant coolness when you take your first bite—it refreshes both body and mind. Watching the people outside walking under the blazing sun, then looking at the spoonful of icy grass jelly I’m about to eat, I silently remind myself to slow down… otherwise, I’ll have to step out and face that scorching heat.

The creamer on the side is optional. Sometimes I wait until the end to pour it in for a change in flavor. All the toppings are cooked just right—chewy ones keep their texture, and the soft ones are perfectly tender and smooth. Nothing is overly sweet, and you can get a refill of ice if needed. Honestly, it’s pretty filling after finishing the whole bowl!
