The Legendary Hangzhou Big Meat Bun : Two of These Giants Were All It Took! Nanfang Mizong Dabao

My memory of this place is a bit different from what I found online, but it’s not a big deal—the main discrepancy lies in the timing, as the hours mentioned online don’t quite match when I used to eat there. One thing I’m certain about, though, is that I bought the large pork buns at this exact location. I just don’t recall the name “Nanfang Mizong” at all—it definitely wasn’t there before. The reason this place stuck in my memory so vividly is that the pork buns used to be huge, and every time I went into downtown Hangzhou, I’d almost always stop by to buy one. It was simple and filling enough to be a meal on its own. I only ever bought the pork buns here; even though they also sold vegetable buns, I’d go to Xinfeng Snacks for those instead.

The large pork buns had incredible value for money — packed with juicy, flavorful meat filling, and really delicious. There were always people lining up no matter what time you came, but the service was fast, so the wait was never too long. When I returned to Hangzhou and saw this “Nanfang Mizong Big Bun” again, I immediately recommended it to my family. It was their first time trying it, even though we’d been to Hangzhou together before — they had never eaten it. Seeing the long line of people made them just as curious as I used to be!

At 2.5 RMB per bun, the price hasn’t changed much from what I remember — maybe just a 0.5 RMB difference at most. When you think about it, where else can you get something like this for that price nowadays? It’s honestly incredible value. Many local uncles and aunties were queuing up to buy them, along with a few tourists — everyone was leaving with bags full of buns to take home.
