From Yangmingshan Hot Spring Resort (Qingshan Recreation Area), it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the entrance of the Juansi Waterfall Trail. Parking in this area is not very convenient, but a few motorcycles can still be accommodated. It is suggested to consider taking a bus for a more convenient option, as parking might be challenging. The trail leads to Qingshan Peak and Cold Spring, and the round trip is estimated to take around 5 to 6 hours, according to descriptions from returning hikers.
However, our original plan was more casual. We just wanted to visit the Juansi Waterfall and take a short walk as a pre-dinner exercise. The round trip from the trailhead to the waterfall and back takes approximately 40 to 60 minutes. There are small muddy sections along the way, especially after rain, and some parts require careful footing. While the trail is not difficult, it may not be very suitable for those with slightly unstable footing, especially the elderly, as there is a risk of slipping.
The Juansi Waterfall lives up to its name. Despite the rain the previous day, the water flow wasn't very intense, resembling more of a silk-like cascade. It's not very close to the trail, with some trees obstructing the view. The waterfall is not very clearly visible, making this area more of a midway resting point. For avid hikers, this stop might be considered a minor detour, and the real challenge lies in reaching Qingshan Peak.
