Food Review: Akatora, a Renowned Yakiniku Restaurant in Neihu: A Must-Try for Yakiniku Lovers!

Who would have thought that a yakiniku restaurant located next to a bunch of big box stores would attract so many people? If you're driving, I recommend parking at the nearby RT-Mart parking lot since there's no street parking available nearby. Yakiniku no Meimon Akatora - Neihu Branch, if I remember correctly, is a yakiniku restaurant that originated in Japan, so the prices are definitely not in the "high cost-performance" range. They also have a branch in Daan District, but we chose the Neihu branch because we happened to be shopping at a nearby mall. We also thought there would be fewer people during lunchtime, but to our surprise, the place was almost full when we arrived. Without a reservation, it's basically impossible to get a table.

The four of us opted for a set meal directly, as we found ordering à la carte too much of a hassle. There are three types of dipping sauces, and if you run out, you can ask the staff to replenish them. You can choose the sauce according to your personal preference or the type of meat and cut. There's no strict rule on which sauce to pair with which dish.

Kimchi barely enough to fill the gap between your teeth! Honestly, their side dishes are pretty stingy.

The only vegetable dish, a green salad, barely gave us a few bites!

They have robots to help serve food! But sometimes the staff bring the dishes to the table directly, so it's hard to understand when or why they use the robots.

The chicken soup at Taichung's Uma Yakiniku is much better, and you can drink as much as you want there, so this place gets a thumbs down for that!

As for the bibimbap, which originally came with beef, the person who wanted to eat it doesn’t eat beef. The staff asked if we wanted the beef taken out, but then the beef just disappeared without being served separately on another plate. That was a really baffling experience!

Back to the most important part—the meat, since it’s a yakiniku place after all. The meat quality is key, and the rest is just side dishes. The beef tasted pretty good, the texture was fine, and the people who ate beef were quite happy. The pork and chicken were also fresh with no strange smell. Overall, the meat quality was decent, and the portions were acceptable, especially the final large platter, which was quite generous.
