The entrance gate of the Smangus Village is one of the most distinctive and iconic spots for taking photos. Almost every visitor captures the moment, symbolizing your official entry into the territory of Sikawas, or as it is commonly known, the Divine Tribe. Congratulations on your arrival at Smangus! After enduring the journey, reaching here is no small feat, which makes having an instantly recognizable and popular photo spot as a souvenir a fitting reward.
To the left of the entrance gate is Sikawas' church and school, which indeed functions as an active school with students attending classes. You can even hear the school bell ringing.
Upon entering, a steep uphill lead to the left, where you'll find the service center, the place for accommodation check-in. Online, you pay a deposit, and the remaining fees are settled during check-in. The staff will provide a brief overview of the surroundings and can offer advice on your itinerary. Two days and one night are sufficient to cover the Giant Tree Trail, while most tourists rarely explore other attractions. This is partly due to time constraints, as visitors mainly come for the ancient trees. Additionally, there are traffic restrictions that further compact the schedule. Personally, I recommend staying for three days and two nights if time permits, which allows for a more relaxed experience.
Other attractions include the Mystic Valley, Hunter's Trail, Ecological Park, Canaan Maple Trail, Guanba Trail, and Silihupu Waterfall Trail. You read that right – there's a wealth of trails here. Essentially, in Smangus, you won't have to worry about getting enough exercise; instead, you might find yourself wondering when you'll reach the end. However, it's not necessary to do them all!
There are restaurants and supply points, as well as shops selling various souvenir items.
Canaan Food House serves as the dining venue for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's also one of the best spots with a fantastic view of the mountains! The scenic outlook is truly beautiful. They also offer coffee and snacks for sale, although some dishes require advanced reservations. Next to it, there's a supply point where you can purchase daily necessities, snacks, instant noodles, and beverages. Prices are slightly higher than those downhill, but still reasonable.
During the daytime, the parking lot can become full with shuttle buses and tour coaches for day trips. However, guests of Canaan Cottage have designated reserved parking spaces. By evening, there are hardly any vehicles left as most of these have descended the mountain. Accommodated guests will find ample parking space here!
The bakery produces fresh bread and pastries at scheduled times, which are announced through notices on a bulletin board at the entrance. There are also broadcast announcements. These baked goods are primarily supplied to Canaan Food House for sale.
