Many people are probably unfamiliar with Qiao xuan Restaurant in Gongguan, Miaoli, but Fu Le Noodle Shop at the nearby intersection is a well-known spot. Unless you have local friends to guide you, it's unlikely for outsiders to venture into this location. It's relatively remote, lacking prominent signage to direct visitors. Moreover, the restaurant is always crowded, especially on weekends, making it a challenge to secure a table without a prior reservation – even for local residents!
Sometimes, there are private events or wedding banquets hosted here. The menu mainly consists of dishes meant for sharing, making it an ideal place for group gatherings. It's not suitable for dining alone or in a small group; the more, the merrier. There are only three private rooms, and the majority of seating is in the open dining area, so the ambiance can be quite lively. Dining here might not be the epitome of elegance, but it's a reflection of the rural setting where it's located. In fact, you might even find yourself sitting next to familiar faces at the neighboring tables.
A must-try for Hakka enthusiasts is their white-cut chicken, and the chicken meat is truly delicious.
Their signature dish is the pan-fried taro cake, and Gongguan is actually known for its abundant taro production. Their oily rice is one of the few dishes you'd want to keep coming back for – something you don't typically crave. It's seasoned just right and doesn't leave you with a greasy aftertaste.
The steamed egg is too salty, and the scallops inside seem to be the canned, preserved type.
This table offers a variety of dishes, including fish, meat, and seafood, making for a rich selection. However, it may have slightly fewer Hakka elements, but that's understandable. They change some of their menu items from time to time to avoid having the same dishes every visit and to keep things interesting. In terms of taste, all the dishes are quite good, maintaining a certain level of quality when it comes to shared dishes. That's why so many people dine here, and, of course, the prices are quite reasonable! The portions are also quite generous.
