I even went out of my way on the route from Miaoli to Taipei just for this Brick Oven Chicken. The original route didn't pass by, and it added several tens of kilometers to the journey. It just goes to show how strong our cravings can be for good food. Along the way, I was super tired and felt like napping. But I kept pushing through, thinking about the chicken I'd be having soon.
On weekdays, the restaurant tends to be less crowded in the evenings because it's a bit far from the city center, and there aren't many residents nearby. Most of the customers are here specifically for the restaurant. Many people come here after visiting the scenic spots in Sanxia over the weekend. So, it can get busier on weekdays at lunchtime or on weekends. It's better to call and make a reservation on weekends to be on the safe side.
In addition to their signature Brick Oven Chicken, they also offer a variety of hot stir-fry dishes, making it a great choice for family gatherings or group dining. Their indoor dining area is spacious, ensuring a comfortable and uncrowded dining experience!
Diners are welcome to help themselves to the complimentary chicken oil rice, and you can have as much as you like. Just be careful not to get lost in the world of chicken oil rice and miss out on trying the other dishes!
The highlight is the Brick Oven Chicken! At first, it might seem insufficient, but later on, you'll find it's too much to finish. The reason is that there are so many other dishes!
We also always order scallion pancakes! Their scallion pancakes have a unique twist, as they are much thicker than those from other places!
The deconstructed Brick Oven Chicken is quite soothing to the eyes. There are three different condiments available on the side - the original sauce, salt and pepper, and lemon. Additionally, there's golden pickled vegetables primarily for changing the flavor and reducing the feeling of being overwhelmed, as some people might find it rich. I'm not sure how others eat it, but I personally enjoy eating chicken skin. The fat has been rendered out during the baking process, so it's not greasy and has a slightly crispy texture. It's really satisfying, and the interior is well-seasoned, making the inner parts a bit salty. Shredding the chicken into strips and pairing it with rice is also a good way to enjoy it.
The portions of their hot stir-fry dishes are quite generous, even when it comes to the vegetables. So, don't be fooled by the fact that we only ordered one chicken and three stir-fried vegetables. All three of us ended up quite full, and we even had some chicken meat to take home. It didn't seem like a lot when we placed the order, but it became apparent when the dishes were served.
