First Time on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge | Express Bus from HK Airport to Macau

Hong Kong to Macau DIY: Hassle-Free Bus Ride from HK Airport

This article focuses on the experience of crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge after boarding the cross-border bus from Hong Kong Airport to Macau. If you're looking for information on how to catch the bus, you can refer to another article. This one mainly covers the journey and the feeling of crossing the bridge.

Since there's no need to go through Hong Kong customs, once you're on the bus, it heads directly to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and straight toward Macau. The entire trip takes about 40-50 minutes, with almost no traffic jams. At the time, I didn’t see any other vehicles on the bridge – none ahead or behind us. It was a bit eerie!

You'll pass by Hong Kong Airport's cargo area!

From this perspective, you can see the bridge in the distance, and for a stretch of the journey, there are no islands or anything else around the bridge. There's also a section where the bus goes through an underwater tunnel before coming back onto the bridge. When it's windy, you can feel the bus shaking a bit. The speed is also limited, so it’s not as fast as a typical highway. Currently, regular drivers don’t seem to be allowed to use this route yet, so there are no traffic issues.

After getting off the bus, you simply grab your luggage and go through Macau customs! This step is quite easy and straightforward. Just a heads-up: if you have a large suitcase, you’ll need to take the elevator, as you're not allowed to use the escalator.

Once through Macau customs, you can choose how to reach your destination. If you're staying at one of the casino hotels, you can take a free shuttle bus. Otherwise, you can grab a taxi or take a public bus.

There are also buses that go directly from downtown Hong Kong to hotels in Macau, and vice versa. You can take a bus from downtown Macau directly to Hong Kong’s city center. This is quite convenient, and if you're looking to save money, you can take a bus to the border checkpoint and then buy a cross-border bus ticket from there.
