The first time I had Tiandi No. 1 Apple Vinegar Drink was in Guangdong (the exact time is unknown, and I don’t want to recall it). At that time, it was only available in Guangdong, but now it has expanded beyond the region. Tiandi No. 1 is an apple vinegar drink produced by a beverage company based in Jiangmen, Guangdong. Initially, it was only sold in glass bottles, but now it also comes in cans. Is this why it was able to expand beyond Guangdong? In the past, you could only drink Tiandi No. 1 in the Guangdong area. Whenever I visited Dongguan or Shenzhen, I would always ask if a restaurant had Tiandi No. 1.
Back then, the beverage market was mostly dominated by carbonated drinks like Coca-Cola, Sprite, and Pepsi, or herbal teas like Wong Lo Kat or Jiaduobao. Personally, I never really liked drinking too many carbonated beverages because they made me feel bloated and uncomfortable. So, most of the time, I drank tea or Wong Lo Kat, until I eventually tried Tiandi No. 1. Although it is slightly carbonated, the apple vinegar makes it feel less uncomfortable and instead helps with digestion and cuts through greasy food. Sometimes, when a meal was too oily, taking a sip felt very refreshing.
Compared to other beverages, this one could be considered a premium drink, with a slightly higher price. Moreover, the market acceptance back then wasn’t as high as it is now. Many locals weren’t very receptive to it at the time. After all, drinking vinegar is something that some people resist, unlike in northern China, where people love vinegar. Even now, its market sales still can’t compete with other beverages, which is also related to health awareness. But even though it's an apple vinegar drink, it shouldn’t be consumed in excess—don’t forget that it still contains quite a bit of sugar.
Especially in the summer, having a glass is incredibly refreshing. Sometimes, when I have no appetite, a glass of it really helps!
