Qidu's Legendary Sandwich: Why People Queue for Hours for This Delicious Treat

Qidu's Jia Chuan Nutritious Sandwich – Probably the Most Famous One Aside from the Keelung Miaokou Version?

Is Keelung secretly a city that specializes in selling “nutritious sandwiches”? (Haha) I found out about this place through a bit of a coincidence. One time, a family friend brought some sandwiches from Qidu. Even after being stored in the fridge and eaten the next day, they still tasted pretty good. At that moment, I saved Qidu Jia Chuan Nutritious Sandwich on Google Maps, waiting for a chance to visit someday. After all, Qidu isn’t exactly a place that comes to mind easily—or one you’d normally go out of your way to visit. It doesn’t really have any well-known tourist spots to draw you in, so unless you’re determined, it’s not easy to make the trip. This time, the visit was purely for food—no other reason. And honestly, I can't guarantee when I’ll ever be back in Qidu again!

It’s just a small street cart, but even before it opened, a long line of customers had already formed. It was kind of unbelievable. It was a weekday too—doesn’t anyone have to work? And the line just kept growing with no sign of slowing down. Since they operate until sold out, showing up close to the listed closing time is risky—you’ll likely miss out.

The bread is freshly deep-fried, and the main wait time is for that frying process. The sandwich assembly itself is very fast!

The sandwich bread has a texture similar to a Taiwanese sweet donut—it’s chewy with a bit of sweetness, and slightly crispy when freshly fried. The filling includes ham, cucumber, tomato, soy-braised egg, and mayonnaise. The taste isn’t too greasy, and it could be a nice option for an occasional afternoon snack. These “nutritious sandwiches” are getting harder to find nowadays, and they’re definitely not as popular as they once were. Given today’s health standards, it’s honestly a stretch to call them “nutritious sandwiches” anymore.
