The second food stop in Wuzhen is Ah Zhong’s Sesame Flatbread, located right next to the pork rib noodle shop. If you’re already here, you should definitely try both. The owner and his wife are quite proud of their shop — they say it's an internet-famous spot, which is kind of cute. They’ll even recommend flavors for you, but only if they’re not too busy, otherwise they won’t have time to respond.
Each flatbread is made fresh to order and baked on the spot, so you won’t get it immediately after ordering. The wait isn’t long though — usually around 6 to 8 minutes, definitely less than 10. It’s also fun to watch them work. I was genuinely impressed watching them reach into the scorching hot oven to press the flatbreads onto the wall. Just standing nearby feels overwhelmingly hot.
The flatbread is very thin. You can ask them to slice it for easier eating, or just enjoy it whole. It’s best eaten hot — the aroma and the crispy outer layer, paired with the thin savory filling, make for a delicious snack. It’s a bit on the salty and flavorful side, but really tasty. To be honest, snacks like this are becoming rare — so eat and appreciate them while you still can. The technique is tough, and few people are willing to learn it nowadays. The owners are already getting on in years — they keep going, one day at a time. If one day the nearby buildings get torn down, or they decide to retire, another piece of traditional flavor will be lost.
