Baqi Rest Area | A Stunning Spot on Route 11

Traveling along the extended Route 11, the Baqi Lookout is undoubtedly the most beautiful "turning point" on this road. As you drive past the hairpin turns from Hualien City, the lush green mountains on both sides suddenly transform into a vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. The Coastal Mountain Range stands majestically, offering breathtaking scenery.

Upon entering the lookout, gazing eastward reveals the magnificent blue Pacific Ocean, its vast waters enough to make one forget the fatigue of the journey. Looking south, you can overlook the enchanting Qixingtan Bay. The cool sea breeze constantly blows, tempting you to take a nap right there.

The Baqi Rest Area is well-equipped, featuring pavilions, restrooms, an inquiry station, and a small shop. The shop offers various indigenous handicrafts and refreshing snacks, allowing you to recharge and create lasting memories of your trip.

Additionally, below the observation deck, the East Management Office has set up a boardwalk about 100 meters long. The boardwalk ends at a cool, shaded grassy platform where visitors can rest, cool off, and listen to the pleasant sounds of cicadas and birds in the forest.

Whether for a brief stop or a leisurely stroll, the Baqi Rest Area is a must-visit spot on Route 11.

We bought sausages at the small shop. They were pre-cooked and kept warm but not reheated, so they were lukewarm and not very satisfying. The taste was average, even with unique indigenous flavors like Magao and flying fish roe. The ones sold at city night markets might be better. Personally, I think it's best to come here just for the scenery. Unless you have no snacks and are forced to eat, it's better to skip the food. Treat this place as a rest stop to use the restroom and enjoy the ocean view.
