Sanxia Songboyuan Dumpling restaurant is almost a must-visit when you come to Sanxia (excluding the Sanxia Beida Special Zone). Of course, it's not the only choice, but it's highly convenient and offers great value for money. It's suitable for both group gatherings and solo dining. The only downside is that it's not very accessible by public transportation; it's more convenient to drive to Pine and Cypress Garden. It's about a 10-minute drive from Sanxia Old Street and has a parking lot. Don't think it's remote with few customers – during lunchtime, it can get quite crowded, especially with some factories nearby. It's also one of their go-to restaurants for group meals!
There are only two flavors of dumplings here, cabbage and chive. Knowing that doesn't really help because you can only order by quantity, not by flavor. Haha! Sometimes you get a few more cabbage dumplings, and sometimes you get a few more chive dumplings. It's essentially a random and luxurious gamble. But it's all good fun! Alternatively, you can buy frozen dumplings to ensure you get the flavor you want.
The dumplings are one-bite size, and typically, guys can comfortably eat around 10 to 15 of them. That's about the upper limit, as you want to leave some room in your stomach for other dishes, like side dishes from the luwei selection.
The tofu platter for $100 is this generous in portion size, and it's impossible for one person to finish it all. When you order, you're mentally prepared to take the leftovers home. However, not ordering it would be a disservice because this portion size is unheard of in Taipei. It offers exceptional value for money, especially when paired with its spicy radish sauce; you just can't stop eating it.
The portion size of the small bowl is roughly the size of a Taipei large bowl (if not even larger)!
If it were located near my home, dining here once a week wouldn't be excessive. They offer a wide variety of dishes, including numerous stir-fries and side dishes to choose from. Overall, the prices are quite reasonable, and the taste is decent, nothing extraordinary. It's said that it used to taste even better in the past! The service here is minimal; you have to get your own utensils, and self-packaging is the norm.
