There are plenty of snacks near Cathay Hospital, making it hard to determine which one is truly delicious without recommendations or introductions. Without guidance, it's a matter of luck, trying each place one by one. With a mindset for exploration this time, I chose to step into the 'House of Giant Wontons.' Before entering, I noticed it was established in 1984, which is quite a feat in this location. This area is prime, with many companies beside Cathay Hospital and a large residential population, catering to diverse market segments. To sustain such a long operation, it must have something remarkable.
The variety of side dishes was decent, but it would be better if they could cover them properly. Otherwise, they are right next to the counter, and with many customers passing by, it doesn't seem very hygienic or visually appealing.
The interior space is limited, and the aisles are narrow. The tables are closely spaced, making it easy for personal belongings to accidentally touch neighboring customers. It can feel a bit stuffy inside!
Self-service sauce area！
I spotted the eggs unintentionally, and when I handed the menu to the lady, I realized that the menu didn't list those eggs. They were well-marinated in the sauce!
Mitaimu noodles are quite rare to find in Taipei. I used to enjoy them somewhat, but they were a bit ordinary, and the broth was also quite light.
The side dishes are perfect for solo diners, with reasonable portion sizes and prices. However, the taste doesn't quite suit me; without dipping sauce, there isn't much flavor as it relies heavily on the natural taste of the ingredients.
This type of dumpling has a layer of meat spread on the wrapper, so almost every bite contains the meat filling. The dumplings are indeed quite large, but there's a slight unrefined taste of meatiness that hasn't been managed well. It feels a bit ordinary! ordinary!
The minced meat sauce seems more fitting for rice than noodles; the texture of the noodles wasn't to my liking. There was a prominent floury taste, but I finished it based on the principle of not wasting food. The serving time was a bit long, giving the impression that they were overwhelmed, perhaps due to a surge in takeout orders affecting the consistency of the food. Maybe the high influx of customers led to significant mood swings among their staff. Some lacked patience and got into arguments, which seemed a bit unprofessional.
