You should have Bei Da Huang Dumplings at least once a year, not because you wouldn't want to have them more often, but it's not really suitable for a solo visit. It's recommended to go with a group as it's more enjoyable that way. Otherwise, you'll fill up just on dumplings and won't be able to eat anything else. Besides the dumplings, the most important thing here is the braised dishes. Eating only dumplings without trying the braised dishes is like missing out on something essential. The portion sizes here are beyond generous. There's no need to worry about needing larger portions, and the prices are very reasonable. The only drawback is that the environment is a bit messy!
The menu is very concise!
On the first floor, it's advisable to sit in the area near the front door, as the seats towards the back are close to the kitchen waste recycling bin. It's better to go to the second floor, but be cautious when using the stairs.
I remember that only on the first visit did I see an order of dumplings with around 20 pieces. After that, I haven't seen quantities exceeding 20 pieces. Even seeing 15 pieces is quite rare. The minimum order here seems to be around 6 dumplings, and if you don't order any other dishes, you can eat a maximum of 10 dumplings at most. Any more would be too much! The dumpling skin is relatively thick, and the meat filling inside is very substantial. There's only one flavor of dumplings available. The seasoning inside is already quite rich, and you don't even need dipping sauce, that kind of style.
Braised dishes are a trap where it's easy to over-serve yourself. When my family goes to eat, we always end up with leftover braised dishes that we can't finish. While serving, it doesn't seem like much, but once the food arrives, we ask ourselves, "Did we really serve that much?" Unintentionally, it becomes a large portion. They will bring extra braising sauce, so if you're afraid of spiciness, remember to request not to add chili peppers. Those chili peppers are really hot. The braised dishes have a deep color and are neither too salty nor too sweet. It's not very complex, just a simple braising sauce. That's why you can eat it bite after bite; sometimes, overly complicated flavors can be tiring.
