This time we visited Fushoushan Farm. Initially, we did not plan to include Tianchi and Daguan Pavilion in our itinerary. Later, while having dinner on the farm, we met a tour bus driver who enthusiastically recommended these two spots. He said that Tianchi is one of the most famous attractions in Fushoushan Farm and a great place to watch the sunrise. It’s about a 15-minute drive from Fushoushan Farm, and people usually visit Tianchi first before returning to the farm. Daguan Pavilion, on the other hand, is where Chiang Kai-shek used to meditate and contemplate national affairs, which adds historical significance to it.
Since these attractions were added to our itinerary last minute, we wanted to visit them even though they were not particularly on our way. The tour group usually visits Tianchi first and then returns to Fushoushan Farm. Unless they take the Lixing Industrial Road to leave, they will pass by Fushoushan Farm again on their way back.
This small body of water is known as Tianchi. It used to be fed by a spring, so it had water year-round and never dried up. However, after an earthquake shifted the area, it now mainly relies on rainwater, making it look quite shallow and almost dry. It seems that many mountain ponds are often called Tianchi.
Daguan Pavilion
Daguan Pavilion is located near Tianchi. It is a two-story wooden building where Chiang Kai-shek used to meditate and contemplate national affairs. The second floor of the pavilion has a viewing platform that overlooks Tianchi and the surrounding mountain scenery. We stayed here until it started to get dark before reluctantly leaving. It is now a café, and you need to take off your shoes to enter. The restroom is behind Daguan Pavilion!
Tall trees surround Tianchi, and it doesn’t take much time to walk around the pond. You can also see distant mountain views from here. If the weather is good, the scenery would be even more beautiful.
