In the previous post, I mentioned Cheong Kei's fish balls. Although they were pretty average (there are likely better options out there), now it's time to talk about Lou Kei Macau Authentic Snacks, located right next door. These snacks are undeniably famous, but whether or not to try them here is a matter of personal preference. Are there other well-known or better places? Absolutely. After all, countless people—locals and tourists alike—have vouched for various alternatives.
Now, as for Lou Kei, situated across from Lou Kau Mansion and curiously absent on Google Maps, it was a purely instinctive choice to give it a try. Sometimes, taking a leap of faith leads to unexpected surprises. While I can’t say if their snacks were particularly surprising, their "Pounded Lemon Tea" did leave a memorable impression.
The only reason I ended up buying it was because I wanted a drink and was tempted by a buy-one-get-one-free offer (subject to in-store conditions). Watching the staff pound the lemons with such intensity made me feel like the lemons deserved a moment of silence. What could they possibly have done wrong to deserve such a beating? The sheer effort they put into pounding those lemons was impressive, ensuring the flavors were fully released.
Initially, I was worried the lemon tea might taste bitter, but surprisingly, it didn’t at all. The aroma of the lemons came through beautifully, and the tea was neither overly sour nor astringent—just smooth and refreshing. Overall, it turned out to be quite a delightful lemon tea!
Sometimes, taking a chance on an unrecorded or lesser-known spot can result in pleasant surprises. These off-the-beaten-path adventures often become the standout memories of a trip.
