Don't focus too much on Blue Bottle Coffee's locations—so far, there's no store in Taiwan, though there have been rumors that one might open eventually. When I was returning to Taiwan from Hong Kong, I happened to come across a temporary Blue Bottle Coffee stand at the airport. I assume it’s no longer there. It was pure luck that I got to try it—if my brother hadn’t spotted it and told me to give it a shot, I probably would have just gone to Starbucks instead.
Am I familiar with Blue Bottle Coffee? The simple answer is no, not at all. I had only vaguely heard of the name and seen some of their merchandise because my brother had brought back a cup from either Korea or Japan. That’s how I first learned about the brand. But why is it so popular? I had no idea. Is there something truly special about it, or is it just great marketing? I have to admit, their logo is pretty eye-catching.
The price? Definitely not cheap! But I figured I’d give it a try—after all, you won’t know if it’s good until you taste it.
First, it wasn’t freshly brewed, so there wasn’t much of a wait. I’m not sure if that was due to space limitations at the temporary stand or if their actual stores brew coffee on-site. Since I’ve never been to a proper Blue Bottle location, I’ll leave that to those who have to comment. Next, the size—it's really small, and the temperature wasn’t very hot either. As for the taste, it was smooth and not acidic. If I remember correctly, it had a nutty aroma. I didn’t ask about the coffee’s origin, though. Overall, it was worth trying, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it again.
