Burger King is quite a fascinating fast food chain.
As the name suggests, it's all about burgers. Most of their offerings are centered around beef, with fewer options for other types of meat. The flavor of their burgers tends to be bold and heavy, but that’s part of what makes them satisfying.
There was a time when I really enjoyed Burger King, but it has never been one of the more popular fast food chains in Taiwan. McDonald’s and KFC still dominate here. As for KFC, I’m not that interested in it anymore—the fried chicken doesn’t taste as good as it used to, and I’m not really into their burgers or fries either. It’s almost turned into a fried chicken place that’s famous for its egg tarts instead—those might actually sell better than the rest of their menu.
Burger King locations are still quite rare, and it’s not easy to find one. So over time, I just stopped eating it, which also had to do with me cutting back on fast food in general. These days, I might only have fast food once or twice a year—sometimes not even once.
This time, I had Burger King at Taoyuan Airport, just before heading overseas. I didn’t know what to eat and didn’t have much time, so I ended up grabbing Burger King—revisiting an old taste. (Well, truth be told, I ordered a lot once I went in!)
The portions felt a bit smaller, and the prices a bit steeper—haha!
But it was still really satisfying. Sometimes you just need something bold and flavorful to hit the spot.
The last memorable time I had Burger King was with a friend who had returned from mainland China. We ate at a location near Guanghua Digital Plaza. It’s not a memory I particularly enjoy revisiting, since that friend passed away a few years ago.
He was an older friend with whom I could occasionally talk about deeper things—someone who really listened. People like that are rare, and I’ve had one less ever since.
Ah… life.
