Unexpected Chan Chi Spicy Hot Pot Dunhua Branch Reservation! Can't Miss This!

Sometimes, surprises come when you least expect them. Who would’ve thought we’d suddenly manage to grab a reservation at Zhan Ji Mala Hot Pot? It all started with a random impulse to check their booking system, and surprisingly, there was a lunch slot available just a few days later—probably due to a last-minute cancellation. Of course, I didn’t hesitate and immediately booked it. That’s how this plan came together. My younger brother happened to be free too, so we went together.

Originally, I wanted to find a day when the whole family could go, but trying to coordinate everyone’s schedules and get a reservation was way too difficult. So, we just went with whoever was available. Better to go than to keep waiting and never end up going at all.

No need to hesitate—just walk straight through to the elevator, and you'll find the dining area.

Their duck blood and tofu can be refilled unlimited times for free, but depending on the size of the hot pot base, there are limits to how many additional portions you can order.

At first, I considered ordering their egg vinegar sauce, but in the end, I just made my own dipping sauce with the condiments provided.

We chose the mild level of spiciness for the mala broth. I can handle a bit of heat, but my brother can’t eat anything too spicy, and mild was just right for both of us. The tofu and duck blood were delicious—soft, flavorful, and well-marinated. The duck blood was quite delicate and didn’t have many air holes. The quality of the meat was solid too, and the option to order half portions allowed us to try a wider variety of ingredients. Even so, the two of us almost couldn’t finish everything—we felt a bit defeated, like we hadn’t eaten that much after all.

The price isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s fine for an occasional treat. The spiciness of the mala broth doesn’t overwhelm you or cause discomfort—it makes you sweat a little, but the heat fades quickly. It’s a milder, more balanced type of spice—maybe thanks to choosing the mild version. The ingredients were fresh, and the prices were definitely on the high side. Still, the overall dining atmosphere plays a big part in the experience. Now that we’ve tried it, we’ll just leave it to fate to book again next time—definitely not something we’d line up for on the spot.
