Dreadful Dining: Avoid This Restaurant Near Humble Administrator's Garden & Suzhou Museum

After exiting Suzhou Metro’s Zhuozhengyuan-Suzhou Museum Station, you’ll find Suzhou Museum just across the road. Walk a bit further inside and you’ll reach the direction of the Humble Administrator’s Garden. On the right-hand side, along the street, there are many restaurants and small shops. It’s recommended to choose a place that has a crowd—regardless of what time you arrive or what you want to eat, always check if there are people inside first.

Next, take a look at the menu. Honestly, checking online reviews is the fastest way. That day we were short on time and skipped a lot of these steps, which led to a rather mediocre meal that wasn’t worth the price. To put it bluntly, it was kind of a miss—the flavor and cost didn’t match up at all.

They did offer some local specialty dishes, but the execution was so-so. The Squirrel Mandarin Fish (松鼠鱖魚) is optional; if you’re not into sweet and sour flavors, just skip it. The restaurant we chose didn’t have many customers, and the food came out really slowly. The seasoning was also quite intense—very heavy on the taste. Even the complimentary tea was bad, which made the whole experience quite awkward.

The table next to us actually had it worse—they came in after us and ordered a set meal recommended by the staff. They ate with a look of disbelief on their faces. By the time we left, most of their food was untouched, as if just picking up one bite took great effort.

There was also a table with two elderly people who didn’t order any dishes—just a bowl of noodles each. While eating, they quietly grumbled that it wasn’t what they expected and that the taste was… off.

If you’re reading this and happen to be headed there—just don’t go in! You’ve been warned.
