OōEli Hangzhou: Where Architecture Meets Art and Nature in a New Urban Oasis

For me, Hangzhou’s Tianmuli is a brand-new place, even though it actually opened back in 2020. This was the first time I’d ever heard of it, so I was really curious. A local friend happened to suggest meeting there, saying I definitely hadn’t been before. After all, I’m not as familiar with Hangzhou now as I used to be—so many things have changed.

This area is also a popular spot for influencers, or for people to take aesthetic photos. You’ll see some people changing into several different outfits just to shoot pictures, though they often get chased away. Some of the clothes even still have the tags on them. Security guards patrol constantly to observe and disperse anyone who looks like they’re shooting commercial content. Taking casual photos is fine, but if you look like you have an agenda, you’ll be asked to leave. My friend told me the reason behind this, but I’ve completely forgotten!

The place is mainly filled with office buildings, with a mix of entertainment and art-related activities—basically a cultural and creative district. A lot of young people like to come here to eat, chat, or get coffee. I’ve heard it gets lively in the evenings too, but to me it still feels like it’s wearing a shell without quite achieving the atmosphere it aims for. There’s a sense of trying too hard, especially in the attitudes of some people. It makes me wonder—without substance on the inside, the outside has no soul either!
