In summer, when you visit Shitan, you should have grass jelly ice, and in winter, you switch to hot grass jelly. You can enjoy it hot or cold — perfect for cooling down or warming up without worrying about which to choose. Shitan in Miaoli is the hometown of grass jelly; all the grass jelly here is locally grown, and it’s well-known in the area. If you go further in, there are also restaurants specializing in grass jelly chicken soup, so there are quite a lot of options!
This is the grass jelly shop I visit every time I go to Shitan. I’ve been there at least ten times, and I’ve tried it in every season — spring, summer, autumn, and winter. There’s even a Grass Jelly Festival here, so you can check the dates to see the fields and enjoy various grass jelly treats.

Grass jelly is the base, and you can choose whichever toppings you like. If you love grass jelly, you’ll definitely enjoy it — the flavor is fragrant and rich because it takes a long time to prepare properly. The only downside is that parking spaces in front of the shop are limited, so sometimes you may need to park along the roadside. On weekdays, it’s not very crowded, but on weekends, many people come to visit!
