Dining Notes: Is Linkou’s Korean One Chicken Worth the Hype? A Lukewarm Experience.

Whether this is the actual famous brand from Korea, a spin-off, or just a clever imitation is anyone's guess. Unless you’re a culinary detective, it’s hard to tell one "Korean One Chicken" from another. But honestly, the origin isn't the point—the taste is. Even if it’s not the exact flavor from Seoul, it should at least be a flavor that hits the spot.

Full disclosure: I’ve never had the original in Korea, nor did I try the well-known spot in Taipei’s Eastern District. I have no baseline for comparison; these are purely my personal preferences.

The Silver Lining: Side Dishes The side dishes are free and unlimited! There are small plates on the table for self-service. These were actually the highlight—one or two of them were quite tasty.

Service & Atmosphere Even on a weekday with very few customers, the service didn't feel particularly attentive. It was surprisingly difficult to track down a staff member when needed. Quite a strange vibe.

The Main Event: The "One Chicken" When the pot finally arrived, my first reaction was disappointment. Between the choice of container and the meager portion size, the whole presentation felt a bit stingy. While they definitely use local Taiwanese chicken, the broth felt underdeveloped and quite ordinary. The meat wasn't particularly tender or flavorful, and the pieces were cut so large that they were awkward to eat.

The Side Kick: Fried Chicken The fried chicken arrived lukewarm rather than hot. The flavor was okay, but it lacked that satisfying "crunch and heat" you expect from good Korean fried chicken.

The Grand Finale: The Porridge Finally, the porridge. Those poor, lonely flakes of seaweed drifting in the pot! Even the egg was a "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" addition. I could only laugh when I saw it.

The Verdict

Overall, the experience was mediocre, but the price tag certainly wasn't. The "CP value" (price-to-performance ratio) is definitely low. The only redeeming quality was a couple of the side dishes. I really hope they step up their game.
