Jiantanshan, with an altitude of 153 meters, is located in the Yuanshan Scenic Area in Shilin District, Taipei City. It is the northern ridge of the hill behind the Grand Hotel and the closest small mountain to the city center of Taipei. Walking along the ridge trail, you can easily reach other mountains, making it very convenient to get to.

The trailhead is located next to the Jian Tan bus stop on Section 4 of Zhongshan North Road. This used to be a military-controlled area and a protected forest, so the natural forest and ecological plants are well preserved. Many artificial and economic plants are also planted along the trail, making it full of lush greenery.

This trail has become a popular place for citizens to exercise in the morning, and "Lao Di Fang" located on the ridge is a well-known fitness spot. Along the trail, you can enjoy the views of the Grand Hotel, Keelung River Riverside Park, and other scenic spots. The end of the trail is at the intersection of Lane 165, Tongbei Street, and Bei'an Road in Dazhi, which is a gently sloping suburban mountain trail.

As someone who dislikes any kind of hiking, I am hardly ever inclined to seek out any activities related to mountains. Even in Taipei, I am not familiar with any of the mountain trails, except for the Four Beasts Mountain near Taipei 101. Jiankanshan Mountain Trail (Yuanshan Scenic Area) should be one of the most conveniently located trails apart from Four Beasts Mountain! Just take the MRT to Jian Tan Station and walk less than 10 minutes to the entrance of the hiking trail. Its location is easy to find, right next to Fuzhong Temple across from Jian Tan Station, with a bus stop in front.

Many people come here on weekends for exercise, and the age range is quite broad. This is also related to the nature of the trail, which is relatively friendly for beginners and infrequent hikers. It takes about 2 hours to walk from the entrance to the Old Place Viewpoint at the top and back. There are many branching trails, so those who are unfamiliar must carefully follow the signs.

Follow the No. 7 sign on Yuanshan, which is also the route with the most people. There will be many temples and badminton courts along the way. And the singing voices flying everywhere, is it because walking on the trail every day to sing is so powerful?

From the Lao di fang Viewpoint (Plane Spotting Area), you can have a complete view of Songshan Airport and watch planes take off and land. Of course, the Taipei night view is also stunning, so many people come up here to admire it at night. However, you should pay attention to safety and it's recommended to bring a flashlight with you.

It was my first time looking at Songshan Airport and Taipei 101 from this angle, and the scenery was indeed impressive. Unfortunately, it was cloudy that day, but it was still worth the trip. The view is completely different from that of Taipei seen from Xiangshan, giving a feeling of discovering a new Taipei. Overall, the trail is very user-friendly, and the difficulty level is not high. The trail is well-maintained with steps and flat areas, but not too steep. If you have time, it's worth taking a walk here, and you can also visit the Shilin Night Market nearby after coming down. It seems like a good plan!
