A high-altitude old street nestled in the mountains, with the added attraction of the Taiping Suspension Bridge nearby. This is the Taiping Old Street, and I would recommend visiting the Nice Prince Hotel Chiayi. Although it doesn't attract a large number of visitors on regular days, it means that the shops are not always open. However, strolling around here doesn't feel too crowded and is relatively comfortable. It's the kind of pace we enjoy, as we don't prefer crowded places.
This place sells some unique agricultural products that you won't find elsewhere, which adds to its charm. It has a local and authentic feel, unlike other old streets that sell unrelated merchandise. A nondescript old street would be worth visiting only once, but even though you might only come here once, it leaves a special impression.
One of the most famous and iconic attractions in Taiping Old Street is the "Winter Melon Sister." I actually think it's quite impressive as almost every visitor can be seen holding a cup of their famous winter melon tea. That's definitely worth trying! We were intrigued to see everyone walking around with a cup of winter melon tea, which prompted us to give it a try. However, it may also be related to the hot weather on that particular day.
The handmade tofu jerky was a bit bland and didn't suit my taste.
Personally, I prefer the Winter Melon Lemon flavor! I enjoy the taste of lemon.
There is a trendy restaurant on the way to Taiping Old Street called "Air Library," which has an interesting name that piques people's curiosity. However, it has nothing to do with an actual library, haha. It is actually a restaurant that has been transformed from a greenhouse previously used for plant cultivation. The interior is filled with lush greenery, and it is described online as a forest-themed artistic restaurant. It tends to be crowded, and it's recommended to make a reservation in advance to secure a spot. Those who are interested can go and check it out.
