Smangus accommodations are divided into four types: Canaan Cabin, Grace House, Joy House, and Jami House. Except for Canaan Cabin, which offers both two-person and four-person rooms, the rest are all two-person rooms. Most people prefer to book Canaan Cabin, whether it's a two-person or four-person room. However, it all depends on luck because Smangus is one of the most challenging places to reach by phone. There are no other options but to call for reservations, so once you get through, most people are just looking for any available room, and there isn't much choice. If you manage to get the room type you want when calling, you are truly lucky!
There are four of us traveling to Smangus in total. Our first choice is the Canaan Cabin American-style Loft Quadruple Room, followed by two separate two-person rooms (suites). Almost everyone's recommendations emphasize booking the Canaan Cabin, as it is situated at the highest point in the tribe, offering the best scenic views. Additionally, its facilities and rooms are generally newer compared to the others. Of course, this also reflects in the room rates, as it is slightly higher in price compared to the other rooms.
One the first floor, there is a large bed, a television, a vanity table, and a bathroom.
It's an entirely wooden structure, and you can even catch a faint woody fragrance. On the second floor, there are two single beds, and the space is quite spacious. The ceiling also doesn't feel cramped.
The hot water supply has daily time restrictions, operating from 18:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 18:00 to 23:00 on weekends. Please refrain from making loud noise after 10:00 PM; it's genuinely quiet at night. It seems like even travelers here tend to go to bed early. Outside, it's nearly pitch dark, except for the flickering room lights. However, if you look up at the night sky, you can see the stars, a sight that's entirely absent in urban areas.
There's also a super spacious terrace where you can sit, have tea or coffee, and chat. However, there's quite a temperature difference between day and night, so be sure to stay warm. Additionally, perhaps due to the Canaan Cabin American-style Loft Quadruple Room's layout, it's one of the Canaan Cabins with a less clear view. There happens to be a building in front that slightly obstructs the scenic view, which is a minor drawback. If you go a bit further ahead to the rooms in front, the view opens up, and you can enjoy a more beautiful mountain vista!
