The bottle of Otokoyama Genshu from Hokkaido has been sitting around for God knows how long. I can't even remember the year my parents went to Hokkaido. They rarely bring back alcohol as souvenirs or mementos. Our family usually doesn't have a tradition of bringing back souvenirs; we almost always come back empty-handed from our travels. At most, we might symbolically bring back some snacks, just a small gesture.
I've been wanting to secretly open this bottle for a long time, but I'm hesitant because of their thoughts. I'm afraid that if I open it and they find out, they might scold me. Who knows, maybe there's some special meaning behind bringing it back from Hokkaido. Well, after asking them, turns out there's no particular significance. Everyone was buying it at the time, so they just picked up a bottle too, or else it would seem odd if they came back with nothing. Reluctantly, they brought back a bottle of whisky, thinking they don't even enjoy drinking.
I don't have much expertise in sake; I haven't consumed it extensively. It's not a type of alcohol I particularly enjoy, so I can't discern the nuances between different varieties. I've only had sake at room temperature and chilled, and beyond that, my knowledge is limited. As long as it's authentic and suits my personal taste, I don't see any issues with the drink.
So, when I poured it out, the color was different from regular sake; it had an amber hue. I started to wonder if it had gone bad from being stored for too long. Even though it didn't taste spoiled, I asked them if they remembered the color when they bought it. Unfortunately, they had long forgotten, and while they initially said it tasted fine back then, they now find it a bit unfamiliar. It left me quite puzzled!
The sake carries the aroma typical of sake but with a richer intensity. The texture is not as smooth as some sakes; instead, it has a somewhat reminiscent flavor of yellow wine. I don't know if I'll come across it again in the future, so I'll just commemorate the fact that I once had a taste of it! A proof of its existence in our lives!
