Jiang Jia deep-fried sandwich | Must-Eat Food at Dongdaemun Night Market

The Jiang Jia Coffin Bread probably offers the most variety of flavors I've ever seen for coffin bread. My impression of coffin bread is limited to corn chowder. It's been a very long time since I've had this snack. I vaguely remember it originated from Tainan or somewhere in the south, but I'm not sure if I've ever had it at Keelung Night Market. What I do know is that I haven't eaten this snack in decades. One reason is that it's not often seen, and another is that the taste is quite predictable.

Coffin bread is essentially a slice of bread that's deep-fried and then has a hollow carved in the middle to hold various fillings. In other words, it's the Taiwanese version of a fried sandwich. The name "coffin bread" doesn't seem odd to me because I've heard it since I was a child, but it might sound quite strange to foreigners, especially if directly translated as "coffin board."

This place is also highly recommended by my brother as a must-try. He always buys it when he comes to Dongdaemun Night Market. Even if he's short on time, he'll make sure to grab one before heading to the train station to return to Taipei. Judging by the long lines, it seems to be very popular, and many foreigners look on curiously. Plus, they really do offer a lot of different flavors to choose from!
