The Cherry Blossom Season at Wuling Farm National Hostel | Booking Depends Purely on Luck!?

Earlier this year, we originally only planned to visit Fushoushan Farm. When booking accommodations, we didn't pay attention to the distance between the two places and were not familiar with their geographical locations. We simply went because my mom had been talking about wanting to visit Fushoushan Farm for several years. So when we were planning our trip this year, we included it in our itinerary, traveling from Taipei, Yilan, and Hualien via the Central Cross-Island Highway. (Little did we know that there would be an earthquake on April 3, 2024, which would make it difficult to visit afterward.) We didn't specifically plan to chase the cherry blossom season; we just thought that if we saw them, great, if not, it was no big deal. It was purely a family trip to relax, and the destination wasn't the main focus.

After booking Fushoushan Farm, we looked at Google Maps to see what other attractions were nearby and discovered that Wuling Farm was very close, just a little over an hour's drive away. We thought that since we had some time, we would check if Wuling Farm had any rooms available, and we managed to book a six-person room. There were no other rooms available before or after, just that one day, so it became part of our itinerary.

The room rates at Wuling Farm include meal fees, with one dinner and one breakfast. If you book a six-person room but don't actually have six people staying, the meal fee can be adjusted based on the actual number of people, while the room rate remains unchanged. For instance, if only four people stay in a six-person room, the front desk will deduct the meal fees for the other two people. (At that time, the Wuling Fuyue Resort was under renovation and not open.)

The first floor of this building is a restaurant, and the rooms are upstairs. Both breakfast and dinner are served here. Non-guests can also purchase meal vouchers to enjoy the buffet here.

This small cabin is actually the check-in counter! It's quite an interesting design. At first, we had trouble finding it.

Breakfast is served within a fixed time window, which is relatively early and short compared to some places where breakfast can go until 10 AM. For dinner, guests need to choose a dining time slot from three available options. Due to limited seating in the restaurant, the number of guests staying exceeds the capacity. They stagger the dining times, so once you choose a slot, you can only dine during that time. After each time slot, they clear and clean the area to prepare for the next wave of guests.

At the Xue Ba National Park Wuling Visitor Center, there is a shop which is the only place where visitors can purchase supplies. Many day-trippers stop here to grab a quick bite, as it's the only place available. The shop closes at 5 PM, so it's necessary to arrive early if you plan to buy anything, as it won't be open in the evening.

The camping area is located quite a distance further inside, away from the entrance.

The six-person room has a nostalgic, historic feel as soon as you enter, with no modern style apparent, showing signs of long-term use without renovation. There are two bathrooms in the room, and the windows open onto the corridor. The hot water supply is ample and hot, but the space inside is cramped, and the separation between wet and dry areas is only symbolic; water tends to spill over into the toilet area.

Moreover, there are very few electrical outlets. We had to borrow an extension cord from the front desk, but we had to be careful not to use too many appliances or high-power devices to avoid tripping the circuit. It was quite challenging. Additionally, the bedding and mattresses were quite damp, and the pillows were too high and not ergonomic, making sleep uncomfortable. There are just too many aspects to criticize!
