Honestly, whether a restaurant is good or if it's the right fit for you is something you have to find out for yourself—even if it comes with a Michelin recommendation.
MIPON is located inside the Grand Mayfull Hotel, and if you’re interested in visiting, I’d highly recommend booking a table in advance. My first impression of the environment was decent, but personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of the color scheme and lighting; the vibe just didn’t really suit my taste. When it’s not crowded, the place gets incredibly quiet—almost to an eerie degree. On the flip side, when it gets busy, it becomes quite noisy, which is very noticeable due to the open-space layout.
Presentation-wise, every single dish looks exquisitely crafted. As for the portions, well, they are "exquisite," so you can probably guess what that means. To be fair, I still prefer the stir-fried pork liver from another Taiwanese restaurant. The dishes here have a darker color, and the seasoning is definitely on the heavier side; some dishes we ordered that day were actually a bit too salty. Another downside was that the food wasn't served piping hot.
Their Pineapple and Bitter Melon Chicken Soup was quite different from what I had imagined—though whether it’s different from yours, I couldn't say. The soup tasted disconnected, as if the broth and the ingredients didn't blend together at all, almost like they just tossed the ingredients into a pre-made broth right before serving. If you’ve ever had the Hakka-style version of this soup, you’ll probably know exactly what I mean. Let's just say it's not the kind of flavor profile I look for in a Pineapple and Bitter Melon Chicken Soup.
As for the service, you could say it’s attentive, but at the same time, it felt rather cold and detached.
